Malt Whisky and Speyside

Whisky is what has made Speyside famous around the globe – names like Glenfiddich, The Glenlivet and Macallan.
The area has over half of all Scotland’s malt whisky distilleries, its success as an industry being based on the cool clear water, rich ripe barley
and ideal climate for slow maturation which make the Speyside area single malt whiskies world leaders.

Around every corner in this stunningly attractive corner of Scotland is a hidden distillery gem producing its
own distinctive whisky – many welcome visitors and allow you to sample their products and learn about each distillery’s special magic.

In addition, the area boasts the only cooperage open to the public, Speyside Cooperage at Craigellachie,
and the area’s only Whisky and Heritage Centre in Dufftown, and two specialist whisky retailers,
The Whisky Shop in Dufftown and The Whisky Castle in Tomintoul. Tasting evenings are held regularly at various venues during the summer,
and Speyside hosts two whisky festivals a year – Spirit of Speyside in early May and The Autumn Speyside Whisky Festival in late September.
